FAQ

Should I get a USB Flash Drive or a disc?  What’s the difference?

Collegiate Video recognizes that commencement is a once-in-a-lifetime experience and HOW customers view our programs is important to us.  Not every solution is perfect for everyone, and so we offer different formats depending on your needs.

DVD

DVDs are still the most common way our graduates and their families view our programs.  We provide waterproof, scratch-resistant thermal ink labels of beautiful school images on each DVD.  These are standard definition video programs–not high-definition–and are created to play in standard DVD players and played out to televisions.

USB Flash Drive

For the first time, we are excited to offer a USB Flash Drive version.  The custom-printed USB contains a high definition file (or files) for direct download onto your computer or for uploading to cloud accounts.  For the most point, these USB-based programs are not intended to be inserted and played directly on TVs, so they are not for everyone.  They are an excellent choice for those who desire a high definition version to be downloaded onto computers for permanent archive.  Increasingly there are work-around solutions that can direct video from home computers to televisions and so this may be something you should consider as you decide which option to choose.

What’s the difference between the Commencement Video and the Degree Conferral?

Commencement Video

The Commencement Video is the most comprehensive program we offer, encompassing the essence of your school’s commencement ceremony with extensive coverage of the day’s events including important speeches.  With some of our schools, we offer highlights from other times in the weekend as well.  During the degree conferral portion of the ceremony, we custom-insert your student going on stage and getting his or her degree, alphabetically, by House, or by major, depending on the school.  If you are looking to preserve your memory of this once-in-a-lifetime event, this is the most complete version we provide and by far the most popular choice of graduates and their families.

Degree Conferral Video

The Degree Conferral portion of commencement ceremonies takes a long time… too long to try and squeeze onto one Commencement DVD without degrading the quality of the overall video.  Yet from an early stage, students wanted to see more friends going on stage than what was offered and thus was born the Degree Conferral Video.  This program is an uninterrupted video of the entire class going on stage for degrees, nothing more.  While it does not feature anything else from the day’s events, it is a perfect compliment to the Commencement Video which showcases only a fraction of the students getting their degrees.  Customers usually buy the two together for a complete package. The Degree Conferral Video is offered at neither Brown nor Yale.

Please note that both these options are available on either DVD or USB Flash Drive.

Where will I see my graduate?

For ceremonies that feature students receiving their degrees or diplomas, we position our camera team as close to the stage as possible so that all Graduates are recorded crossing the stage for their big moment.

With every video we include a “Class of 2017” segment where we record the entire class passing by one of our cameras either during the processional or recessional depending on the ceremony.

Lastly, we record up close and personal shots of students sitting in their seats throughout the day…laughing, clapping, cheering, and soaking in the moment.  We try to insert these cutaways every 15-20 seconds, so there is a high percentage you will see your student somewhere throughout the video during these moments as well.  Inserting cutaways like these is what separates Collegiate Video’s programs from other “stage-only” video presentations, and it’s what students and their families look forward to each year.

What if I am not happy with my video program?

All orders will be shipped no later than August 31, 2017.  Our goal is 100% satisfaction. If you are unhappy with the product, please contact our Customer Service Department and we will be happy to work with you toward a resolution.  If you simply want a refund, return your products with a note stating that you do not want them and we will be glad to give you a full refund.

What methods are available to place an order?

You have a couple options–print out a downloadable .pdf order form found on your school’s page on our website and mail in (no need to expedite), or securely order online from the same page.  If you must place an order over the phone, you can try us at 802.379.3635, but please be aware that during certain busy times of year we may not be able to accept your call immediately.  Please allow up to one business day for a return phone call.

The address information for your order does not need to be the same. Please make sure that the billing address is entered as the same address as that to which the credit card bills are sent.  This billing information will not affect your shipping address.
